“There’s no such thing as good enough,’ my first boss used to say. I was 18 and had turned down a place to study architecture to join a textile wholesaler. Suddenly, I found myself working for the pickiest person on earth. Back then, in the 1970’s, I got to try my hand at everything, from delivering to shipping companies and processing orders, to packing hessian sacks. Cardboard cartons were yet to be invented and at the end of the week you’d have bleeding hands from stitching bales. You could say I learnt the hard way, but I’d say that’s the only way to really learn the industry inside out.”
“We listen to what you want, not tell you what we have.”
I grew up in Belfast; a city made famous very many years ago as being home to the finest linen manufacturers in the world. It was as a Graduate Trainee in the mid 80’s that I joined such a company to be thoroughly schooled for my first year in all aspects of cloth production. Sheets, tablecloths and towels manufactured to the most exacting standards and destined to grace the bedrooms and restaurants of the world’s finest hotels. In the quest for perfection no aspect was to be overlooked, no detail too small. Places change and times change but thirty years on the same principles I was taught in Northern Ireland apply today. Getting it right never changes.
An Irishman and an Englishman, so very different in so many ways but together we are Tradelinens. Two traditions united in our attention to detail and steeped in the knowledge of the luxury hotel market that only seventy years’ experience can bring. We listen to what hotels want, not tell them what we have to sell. Soft spoken, sure, but it is our unique bespoke approach to your linen needs that underpins us as much sought after advisors and suppliers to the UK’s most discerning hotels.
You deserve the best. We demand it for you.
